General Summary: 

The Purchasing and Supply Chain Manager has Europe-wide responsibility for the development and implementation of the Europe strategy for the uninterrupted supply of direct material. The individual will be responsible for identifying cost savings initiatives, project management and implementation, contract negotiations, and building relationships with all internal departments to manage business expectations and requirements. Key initiatives include rationalising the supplier base, securing approved contracts with key suppliers, increasing working capital through payment terms improvements, and improving supplier performance.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Directly and/or indirectly lead and develop team to achieve World Class Sourcing Performance.
  • Ensure the uninterrupted provision of raw materials.
  • Work closely with the Field Sales Team and Sales Leadership to provide direct material cost input for new projects and programs.
  • Manage costs to provide year over year net savings.
  • Identify purchase price variances and communicate these variances to peers and senior leadership. Maintain accurate material costs. Monitor inventory levels and supplier consignment programs to ensure cash flow goals are achieved.
  • Meet Monthly and Annual reporting and metric requirements and provide further enhancement for improved analysis.
  • Manage and nurture supplier relationships. Proactively address supplier deficiencies.
  • Focus on continual improvement and streamlining of processes, and, ensure the qualification of alternate sources.
  • Guide the selection of indirect material and contracted services providers.
  • Proactively communicate with top level leadership.
  • Liaison with other Company Leaders and support teams.
  • Assist with negotiations for the provision of indirect materials and contracted services and will guide maintenance, logistics and EH&S leaders on achieving best possible cost and service level.
  • Collaborate with material buyers and planners in Europe to support tactical strategies including improved raw material and finished goods cost and reducing inventory and lead times.
  • Manage all direct material spending and supply.
  • Collaborate with the company’s Purchasing Leadership located in North America on overall supplier strategy and will work closely with North American based commodity managers on specific purchasing tactics. Additionally, collaborate with peers in North America and Asia on implementing best practices.

 

Principal Accountability: 

  • Direct Material: Achieve net deflation on a year over year basis. Develop in conjunction with the Site Material Buyers and Planners, and local Plant Management, every year a project list capable to deliver annual net deflation and inventory turns improvement plan for the commodities of his / her responsibility. The Global Commodity Manager is responsible for the achievement of these metrics.
  • Supplier Selection: responsibility to work closely with Engineering, R&D, Marketing and Product Management leadership to identify the need for suppliers with new technologies, unique materials, cost competitive structure, portfolio improvement or any other characteristic that could be required by these areas to improve the company’s competitiveness.
  • Supplier Management: responsibility for all aspects of supplier performance in Europe. This includes Supplier Payment Terms, Delivery Performance (OTD), Quality adherence (PPM), Cost Savings (Year over Year Productivity) and Inventory Management.
  • Inventory Management: work closely with Finance and Plant Management to assess raw material and finished goods inventory levels and implement corrective action, where necessary.
  • Reports, Presentations & Data Management: prepare monthly performance reports, for the Key Performance Indicators and supplier indices. Up to date supplier pricing, lead times and terms must also be maintained in the CIMPRO purchasing system along with other supplier data and communications. Work closely with Finance leaders in Poland and France to identify issues with supplier payment terms and supplier price acceleration and develop mitigation plans.
  • Planning: work closely with Customer Service, Material Buyers and Planners, Product Management and Plant Management on the development and effectiveness of raw material and finished goods stocking plans.
  • Relationships: responsible to establish Win/Win relationships with suppliers to ensure that the company can fully leverage supplier technologies, capacity, knowledge to improve, complement or expand product offering, using supplier base as an extension of the company.

 

Essential Qualifications & Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, supply chain or related and 3+ years of experience managing global sourcing across one or more key commodities (plastics preferred), OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA a plus.
  • Experience leading a supply chain team and developing cost savings initiatives preferred.
  • Knowledge of engineered resins and the associated global supply chain.
  • Thorough knowledge (Intermediate/Advanced) for Microsoft Office Application and Project Management programs, specifically Access and Excel.
  • Knowledge of MRPII systems.
  • Ability to lead, influence and drive change in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills.
  • Experience as a liaison with Engineering, Sales, Supply Chain, Marketing, Finance and Operations.
  • Capability to generate an energising vision for change, provide leadership and focus of strategic goals.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of contract law.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Europe and globally.
  • Ability to represent the company in an ethical and truthful manner, leading by example in Supplier Relationships earning the respect of their peers, manufacturing plants and suppliers.
  • Proven leadership courage, demonstrating a willingness to take decisive and definitive actions as necessary to meet commitments and achieve strategic objectives; as well as the ability to deal fairly and respectfully with difficult circumstances across cultural and organisational divides.
  • Ability to think globally about the business and supply base that supports it.
  • Strong communicator and ability to provide timely and concise information to others, as well as using clear and thoughtful oral and written communication to influence, negotiate, and collaborate effectively.
  • Ability to decide and take action by applying intuition, experience, and judgment to the data available.
  • Ability to assimilate various and conflicting information or opinions into a well-considered decision and understand the implications of individual actions or recommendations on other systems, markets, processes, and functions.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English. Fluent in French or German, or both.
